Off I go. A trip to Switzerland, Belgium and Netherlands.
| July 9, 2009 | Filled under couchsurfing / travel, everything's not lost |
Alright, after the 10th time that I went into town today, I think now I really have everything. See, tomorrow I will be boarding a train from Klagenfurt to Salzburg. There, some friendly Couchsurfers from Linz are going to pick me up and we will all drive to Gossau together. That’s near St. Gallen in Switzerland. There’s a “huge” Couchsurfing event going on – the PAELLA with around 150 people. Been there last year before visiting Berlin. This will take until Monday and from then on I will go with the flow, interrailing my way through Switzerland, Belgium and Netherlands. Meeting new Couchsurfers, meeting Couchsurfers I already know and also visiting friends along the way. The rough plan is to check out Winterthur, Basel, Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, Bruges, Rotterdam, Amsterdam (no, for fucks sake, I won’t take any drugs) and then find my way back home somehow. The only deadline that I have is that I have to work again on the 3rd of August, other than that, I have no idea when and where I will be. That’s where the GPS logger will come in handy :)
I already test-packed my backpack and a small day-bag and that will be some heavy lifting for sure, here’s a few of the things I am going to take with me on the trip:
- Interrail Ticket

- Backpack

- Asus 1000HE Netbook + Bluetooth GPS Logger i-Blue 747 (Navigation and Logging!)

- Tent

- Sleeping bag

- Something to read as well

- Camping cutlery. Spoon? Fork? Knife? Spork? Sporfe?

- my trusty EOS 400D

- Canon Speedlite 430EX

- Canon 70-300, not exactly a lightweight..

- Tokina 12-24, not exactly a lightweight either..

iPod nano. Yes, I’m using an Apple product. My mobile phone’s headphone connection died just in time… but I like the iPod so far. There. I said it.

- and of course the absolute mandatory stuff in regards to clothes and the usual traveling equipment :)
Once I put my tent up I will have to raise the flag and claim the ground. A small step for me, a huge embarrassment for the earth.

my back is already begging for mercy :)
I’m very excited and have great expectations but I’m very sure that everything will be great because there’s one thing that can be counted on: no matter the weather or where you are, there’s always great fun when meeting other people and Couchsurfers in particular :)
I’ll try to keep you updated from the road tracks.
See you soon.
