Thomas Pasterk.

Thomas Pasterk

I am Thomas and I live and work in Vienna.

Roadmap
I was born on August 20th 1984 in the very south of Austria. I went to school and I dropped out of school. I started an apprenticeship as a computer scientist which I finished in 2004. Part of this apprenticeship was in a web-agency in Klagenfurt, that later hired me for half a year until I had to do my mandatory civilian service which back then was a full year of social work. I did not return to this job after that year but rather started out in a software company that focuses on online reservation systems in 2005. There I started out as a software supporter and trainer but quickly became responsible for all things interfaces/APIs and left that company a bit over five years after I started working for them. By leaving, I meant I quit. Then I took some time off to travel and relocate. A short while after I came back to Austria I moved to Vienna. A short while after that I got a very exciting job. This is the situation for now and there’s no way I could have summarized that any more. On the other hand there are a thousand stories and ways on how I could have gone on and on. After all, this roadmap made me who I am today.

Who am I..
People told me that I’m a nice person, that I’m funny, witty, some even said I’m smart. Some say, I’ve always acted much older than my age. I do not know what these people say behind my back. But that’s a way I like to see myself. I try to be fair. I try to be polite and treat people the same way I want to be treated. The categorical imperative is an interesting concept. If Karma exists then I suppose we are buddies. I do not believe in god or any other deity, I do not practice any religion. You are of course entitled to think I will end up burning in hell for all eternity. I try to be there for people. I help strangers. I try to be considerate of my surroundings. I try to keep up with what’s going on in the world. I do not always expect something in return. Oh, and I’m probably more American than you are.

..and what do I like?
I love music but I can’t sing or play any instrument. So I love listening to music and can enjoy different types of music. At the same time I know exactly what kind of music I don’t like or can’t enjoy. You will probably never see me leaving anywhere without putting my headphones on. Those are essential to walk the streets, to ride the bus, to be on a train. I also love going to shows even though I don’t always love how people at concerts behave, but I can still enjoy the artists playing. My love for music and life shows also played a big part in moving to Vienna and I have attended a great many concerts already and don’t plan on stopping that. I also like to read and to watch movies and tv-shows. I try not to watch German-dubbed content at all any longer, it’s unbearable for me. I like reading in English, too, but don’t mind a book in German, there’s a difference between dubbing and translating I think. I love pizza and extensive breakfasts (bonus if bacon is included) . Food in general is something I like but I’m rather picky. It got better over the years though. I like travelling, I like Couchsurfing but I also got a little tired of some parts of it. I want to see many more places but have realized my dream of doing a road trip through the USA. I love it when I get to combine my favourite things travelling, food and live music on trips. I like photography but sold my cam a while back in exchange for a small pocket camera because it’s easier to carry around when travelling. Nowadays I don’t do much anymore except the occasional shot on the iphone with instagram.

What else?
There are a million different things I could tell but this page is already long enough. Instead, here’s a map of places I have been to. It should be pretty complete.
